Photo review of 19th Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival
19th Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival took place on 31st July-9th August 2015 in Gdańsk ,Poland.
Over 300 artists from from Poland, Denmark, Hungary, Portugal, Romania, Georgia and England were presented. Among these, works of renowned masters like Luk Perceval (’Macbeth’, Baltic House, St. Petersburg), László Bocsárdi (’Hamlet’, Tamási Áron Theatre, Sfântu-Gheorghe), Robert Sturua (’Julius Ceasar’, Rustaveli Theatre, Georgia) or the British icon of avant-garde music – The Tiger Lillies (’The Tiger Lillies perform Hamlet’, Republique Theatre, Copenhagen).
Without any doubts -during those 10 days Gdańsk was ruled by Shakespeare. Events took place not only on 2 big stages:in Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre and Wybrzeże Theatre . SzekspirOFF plays performed by young actors and avangarde artists were presented in Two Windows Theatre, Theatre courtyard and rooftop and on many main streets of the city.
During these year’s edition of the Festival three Polish plays were presented in the final of Best Polish Staging of Shakespeare’s Work of the Season . The Golden Yorick prize was given to „King Lear” directed by Jan Klata (Narodowy Stary Teatr , Kraków)
The festival always included a wide spectrum of workshops, artistic events and meetings with theatre creators.
