Shakesphere 2024 Results!
The members of the European Shakespeare Festivals Network are pleased to announce that the choice for Shakesphere 2024 will be La Ribalta Teatro from Italy, presenting a new Hamlet Double bill.
Shakesphere is a world wide call for new work based on or derived from Shakespeare’s plays, to be presented at member festivals across the year.
For the 2024 call, we had over 70 proposals from all round the world with an enormous range of inspiring and challenging ideas and it was particularly difficult to choose just one.
La Ribalta’s double bill is a bilingual (Italian and English) juxtaposition of Comedy and Tragedy set around the Gravediggers and the Players. “We are thrilled and excited to play the Hamlet Double Bill around the European Festivals and to bring our linguistic and stylistic research to audiences abroad,” said the company.
“Shakesphere gives the Network a chance to discover exciting new work from emerging artists, who might not otherwise come to our attention. We are looking forward to presenting this exciting new double bill to our audiences,” said the Chairman of the ESFN Philip Parr.
“We’re also very pleased that some of the other projects proposed to us have been picked up by individual festival members – Shakesphere has certainly introduced a whole new range of possibilities to our programmes,” said ESFN Executive Director Joanna Sniezko Misterek.
The Hamlet Double Bill will be presented at the York International Shakespeare Festival (UK), Neuss Shakespeare Festival (Germany), Craiova Shakespeare Festival (Romania) and Gdansk Shakespeare Festival (Poland).
We encourage all participants to stay connected. Keep us updated on your ongoing projects and any new plans you may have.
