SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL In the Globe Neuss-Programme!
SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL
In the Globe Neuss, Germany
7 June – 7 July 2018
As you like it! The 28th Shakespeare festival in the Globe, Neuss, running from 7th June to 7th July, offers an exciting cross-section of what is on offer on the international scene: fourteen productions from England, Austria, Spain, Poland and the USA, and two additional attractions: Asta Nielsen’s legendary 1921 film version of Hamlet shown with live music, and, following last year’s success, another Shakespeare day for children. Such are the plans regarding a playwright who remains just as relevant today as he was 400 years ago.
The seating plan in the Globe Neuss mirrors that of the original theatre, with the audience arranged on three levels in a semicircle around the stage. Whether we witness the Q Brothers from Chicago performing their „rap” Shakespeare, Henry V defeating the French, the Shrew getting tamed once again, a magical Tempest breezing through Prospero’s books, Romeo and Juliet falling in love, or whether we get to know the various faces of Malvolio in three productions of Twelfth Night (or What You Will!) – we are always close to the action as it touches us, entertains or makes us laugh, as for instance when we see the witty and sardonic Bea von Malchus, in her Queens, sending up the history and background of Queen Elizabeth I, or the bremer shakespeare company extending the sequence of historical dramas about the kings of England with the speculative “royal” play by Mike Bartlett, King Charles III.
In whatever guise he presents himself, William Shakespeare is irresistible!
Tickets are available from the usual advance booking outlets, by telephone on ++49-(0)2131 526 99 99 9 (Mondays-Fridays 08.00-20.00, Saturdays 09.00-18.00, Sundays and bank holidays 10.00-16.00), or on the Internet.
