Emil Boroghina
Emil Boroghina graduated from the Bucharest Academy of Theatre and Film in 1963. He studied acting and completed his postgraduate studies in directing in 1985. From 1963 to 1988, he had a successful career as an actor at the National Theatre of Craiova, and he directed a number of plays in Craiova and in different other theatres. He also held acting and theatre history courses. He ran the Dolj County Folk Creation Center between 1971 and 1975, and organized tours both in Romania and abroad. Meanwhile, he directed and performed one-man-shows of poetry and music. Between 1988 and 2000 he was the managing director of the National Theatre of Craiova. During this time the Craiovan theatre became one of the most appreciated theatres of the Central-Eastern Europe, participated within the most prestigious international festivals, and won several important prizes. It also organized numerous artistic and cultural events including Craiova Shakespeare Festival which later became the Romanian International Shakespeare Festival and extended also to Bucharest. In 1995 the National Theatre of Craiova was the first Eastern European theatre to become a member of the European Theatre Convention. Emil Boroghina has been the recipient of several prizes awarded by different national and international prestigious bodies: the Romanian Theatre Union (UNITER), the International Association of Theatre Critics (IATC), the British Council, Cambridge Biographical Institute, Romanian Academy, etc. Since 1994, he has been the President of the Craiova Shakespeare Foundation and the Director of the Romania International Shakespeare Festival.
