5th Shakespeare Festival in Serbia- Programme
5th Shakespeare Festival in Serbia
28th June-3rd July
For the fifth year in a row Villa Stanković becomes The Globe Theatre and the Danube turns into the river Thames. Guests from India, China, Germany, the USA, Iran, Finland, Belgium, Great Britain, Belarus, Turkey, Spain, Greece , France and many other counties from around the world, come to us
to play Shakespeare. We are working to achieve our goal of performing all 37 of Shakespeares plays , in different languages and in a wide variety of cultural and theatrical traditions. A global vision of Shakespeare presented on our small stage for the enjoyment and enrichment of our local audiences.
This year our Festival is all the richer for the addition of one more program: „Shakespeare for Big Children” , hosted in Belgrade’s prestigious ‘’Dushko Radovic’’ Children’s Theatre.Three performances of Shakespeare’s plays especially created for our younger spectators have been chosen from around the world and one workshop for teeagers by the Q Brothers , American Shakespeare rap artists. We are delighted to be able to offer all children’s events for free with the aim of bringing Shakespeare to a whole new generation of spectators and for the enjoyment of the whole family. Shakespeare is a writer full of fantasy and often a writer of the fantastical , the stuff of children’s imagination , so many of his plays can be appreciated by our younger audiences. Shakespeare was not only a writer but also an actor and actors are often said to be „big children”.
We are all really „big children”and the theater keeps reminding us of the fact.
With great gratitude to those who helped us to be together this year – welcome to the fifth Shakespeare Festival!Nikita Milivojević
