23rd Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival- Programme

The Gdansk Shakespeare Festival is one of the biggest international events which, thanks to the Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre and Theatrum Gedanense Foundation, every year hosts the best Shakespeare productions and the most eminent theatre artists from all over the world.
Mainstage presentations of this year’s festival comprise performances based on William Shakespeare’s texts, inspired by The Bard’s plays, but also the ones based on Shakespeare’s contemporary playwrights. The latter idea is to be developed also in the following years.

“Romeo & Juliet”, directed by Lusine Yernjakyan, Yerevan Chamber State Theatre /Armenia
“Uncle Maroye Re-examined” by Marin Drżič, directed by Paolo Tišljarić, coproduction of House of Marin Držić, Marin Držić Theatre and Midsummer Scene, Croatia /UK
„Titus Andronicus”, directed by Igor Vuk Torbica, Zagrebačko kazalište mladih (Zagreb Youth Theatre), Croatia
“Rome”, based on Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, Julius Caesar and Anthony and Cleopatra, directed by Karin Henkel, Deutsches Theater, Berlin, Germany
“The Knight of a Burning Pestle” by Francis Beaumont, directed by Declan Donellan, Cheek by Jowl/ The Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre, Russia/UK
