25th Shakespeare Festival at the Globe, Neuss Programme
25th Shakespeare Festival at the Globe, Neuss
Full programme of Festival is HERE
28th May-27th June 2015
At the 25th Shakespeare Festival at the Globe, Neuss, there will be plenty of laughter, occasional tears and as usual, no doubt, some rollicking about: the Bard will bestride the Globe stage this year in six comedies, three tragedies, one history play and an „Impro-Opera”. And of course we shall also be able to see well-known faces from film and television in the Globe’s replica of Shakespeare’s semi-circular performing space at the Rennbahn: Dominique Horwitz will be singing with the Lauttencompagney, and Gustav Peter Wöhler will be in partnership with the WDR Radio choir.
From England we have the classic Romeo and Juliet performed by „Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory” and an excellent Macbeth from Piper Productions which has received numerous plaudits. The quirkily dramatic production of the comedy Measure for Measure was created by Dan Jemmett specially for this year’s jubilee festival. With their production of Love’s Labour’s Lost Stephen Jameson and Mountview Productions present a zestful labour of love which is far from lost.
„SHAKESPEARE und PARTNER” offer a German-language version of As You Like It and of course the „bremer shakespeare company” also performs in German, bringing order into the bloody history of the British rulers with „Shakespeare’s Kings: Murder, Power, Death”. With The Merry Wives of Windsor the Salzburg „theaterachse” presents a pacey comedy, and The Taming of the Shrew by the Schauspielhaus and the University of the Arts at Graz ends, as it always should, with a taming that is mutual. And finally, with „La Triviata”, we can witness an improvisation opera in which a classically trained ensemble from Munich sings, speaks verse or plays music on key words suggested by the audience – a unique evening!
Visitors to the Festival can also look forward to the two „exotic” ingredients of this jubilee festival: from Rio de Janeiro comes a Hamlet in Brazilian Portuguese, and when Els Pirates from Barcelona arrive, their Nit de Reis (Twelfth Night or What You Will) will come across, not as Spanish but as Catalan…
